| Prada Bassa (935 m): Culturally different from the rest of the valley, the town of Prada Bassa maintains the traditions of the Caprinesi people, who arrived from the Po Valley and were stopped right here by the Prada mountain dwellers, who are of Trentino origins. The town shows signs of agricultural splendour, with numerous stables and farmhouses. Ever since intensive livestock farming practices in the valleys replaced mountain farming, and the small town of Prada Alta (which, unlike Prada Bassa, maintained the practice of alpine pastures) began developing winter tourism, Prada Bassa began to depopulate as many of its residents moved either to the lake or to nearby Prada Alta. |
