Lumini

This is a frazione of San Zeno di Montagna, with a population of approximately 150 people. According to tradition, the name of this small village originates from the fact that in ancient times, packs of wolves were kept away with fires which, from a distance, resembled candles (or “lumi”, in Italian).

It is said that the first inhabitants were nomads from Montenegro, who arrived with their herds and their “queen”, a strong courageous woman. They settled in this enchanting area, drawn by the green meadows surrounded by forest and chestnut groves, making it ideal for agriculture and pasture. Of particular interest is the historical centre, which has recently been the subject of a conservative restoration project that has respected the local building style.

Not to be missed is the parish, built in 1724 and dedicated to Saint Luigi, whose statue is worshiped inside the church: the religious holiday falls on June 21st, but is celebrated in the parish on the last Sunday of July in order to allow time for the town festival.
