The beechwood

The beechwood between Ortigara and Pralungo, with its majestic secular trees, is the largest and most beautiful of any found on Monte Baldo.

Beech trees, which can grow up to 35-50 metres tall, normally grow at an altitude between 600 and 900 m. Its foliage is beautiful in autumn, as its colour changes from golden yellow to copper-red, and finally to reddish purple. Even in spring, its new faint green leaves are striking.

On the small plateaus of this suggestive beechwood you may still find traces of charcoal production, something that used to be practiced in the summer months until the end of the last century.
